Reminder: beware of this red light on Porsche Taycans!

Reminder: beware of this red light on Porsche Taycans!

A braking problem affects the Taycan. The German firm has issued a global recall on all models produced since 2020. Porsche promises that its car “remains safe” and that owners without a red light can continue to “drive safely”. You will still have to stop by the workshop.

A brake fluid leak on the Porsche Taycan

The Stuttgart manufacturer noticed a problem with the front brake hose on the Taycan. A few owners have reported cracks causing brake fluid to leak, reducing brake pressure and system effectiveness. Porsche hasn't revealed the exact number of cars affected by the recall, but we do know that the brand has sold 150,000 units of the Taycan worldwide since 2020.

Taycan owners are encouraged to contact the dealership for repairs. Models with a fault will have a warning light on the dashboard. If the light turns red, you must immobilize the vehicle. The brand specifies that the intervention lasts approximately two hours, that it is obviously free and that it does not affect the guarantee.

Kevin Giek, the man in charge of the Taycan project, specifies that “we carried out an internal quality analysis and determined that a failure could occur in certain particular cases. With safety being our top priority, we decided to optimize the brake pipes on the front axle.” In the future, new hoses will be installed on the Taycan. And they will therefore be changed on models produced between 2020 and 2024.

Too frequent reminders?

He specifies that his team has “redesigned the hoses with a new length, new braking points, which allows us to be sure that we will no longer see this type of failure”.

This failure has been identified in less than 1% of all Taycan models sold worldwide since its launch in 2020. For Giek, “this is enough to react”. Over the 5 million kilometers of tests carried out during the development of the model, the teams never noticed this problem.

This is not the first recall for the Porsche Taycan. There was first a power problem in 2021. In 2022 the brand issued another recall of 40,000 units due to a problem related to the airbag. And a handful of Taycans, around 3,000, were also recalled in May 2024 because of an anomaly in the battery cells. Even if this can happen and no manufacturer is immune to small failures, it does a lot for a brand like Porsche.
