With the 7X electric SUV, the Chinese Zeekr attacks the Tesla Model Y head-on

With the 7X electric SUV, the Chinese Zeekr attacks the Tesla Model Y head-on

The Zeekr brand becomes Geely's true international spearhead in the electric vehicle market. The 7X will soon arrive in Europe and will be positioned directly opposite the Tesla Model Y.

Zeekr was created at the last minute to position itself against Chinese startups like Nio or Xpeng. Its first models were initially supposed to wear a different badge. Their style bears witness to this. 001, 009, or X are thus very close to Lynk&Co 07, 08 or Z10. This page has now been turned and Zeekr is now asserting itself with its own models which will also come to Europe.

The firm is clearly designated within the Geely group for wide international distribution, and through its products it appears as one of the most European Chinese brands. It is not for nothing that the European development center of Geely CEVT, based in Gothenburg, has been named Zeekr Technology Europe since March. And the vehicles are proud to display a small plaque on their door sill saying “Designed in Gothenburg, Sweden”.

Zeekr is now unveiling its new SUV, cousin of the 007 sedan presented at the Guangzhou motor show last November. There is a common style, particularly illustrated by the LED strip at the front designed in partnership with Valeo and named Stargate. It extends to the front door, allowing careful integration of the “clamshell” hood, but also the subsequent possibility of integrating a side Lidar in addition to the one perched at the top of the windshield.

Lighting seems to be the center of attention for the brand, which emphasizes that the rear lights use LEDs described as “Super Red”. We will also note the frameless doors, but unlike the X or 007, we can see classic handles and not a simple button for motorized opening.

A techno SUV with ultra-fast charging

A sign of its desire to integrate the European market more easily, the Zeekr 7X does not let its dimensions fly away, with 4825 mm long and 1930 mm wide (1656 mm high and 2925 mm wheelbase), where some models flirt with 5 meters. The interior has not yet been revealed, but we should find a meter with curved screen, a large central screen, a head-up display, careful finishing and a cabin that gives pride of place to comfort.

The platform is shared with the 007 and derived from Geely's SEA2. We will find the Golden Battery LFP batteries from Geely or the Qilin NMC batteries from CATL. In both cases, they operate on a voltage of 800 volts and provide very fast charging. The Golden Batteries are thus given for a charge at 4.5 C with the possibility of recovering around 500 km of autonomy in a quarter of an hour.

Two mechanical configurations are planned: single propulsion motor of 310 kW, or double motor of 165 + 310 kW. With these 475 kW, the 7X claims a 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds. The autonomy has not yet been announced, but it could, as for the 007, approach 500 km WLTP with the 75 kWh battery or 700 km WLTP with the 100 kWh battery.
