Xiaomi will not sell its electric car in Europe anytime soon

Over the months, Xiaomi continues to accelerate the production of its electric sedan. The founder of the company has just announced that it has completed the expansion of its factory in Beijing. But interested European consumers will have to wait.

The goal of 100,000 units reached earlier than expected?

Xiaomi has big ambitions in the world of automobiles. As in the smartphone industry, the Chinese brand intends to establish itself in the coming years and be one of the manufacturers that will count during the next decade. The firm has just announced that it has completed the expansion of its car factory in Beijing faster than expected. The goal of 100,000 units of the SU7 produced could finally be reached as early as November.

This is two months ahead of the initially announced date. The Chinese company had said it would reach this goal by the end of 2024. But it does not intend to stop there. Xiaomi acquired another piece of land last week to further expand its factory. Once this new expansion is completed, the factory’s annual capacity will be 300,000 vehicles. Enough to meet an increasingly important demand.

There will be no Xiaomi SU7 in Europe

So, when will the SU7 be marketed in Europe? The recent presentation of the electric sedan in Paris fueled speculation that the model could arrive on the Old Continent. But the founder of the company immediately denied it. On Weibo, he announced that exporting the electric sedan to Europe was not on the agenda. “There are no immediate plans to sell cars abroad,” he said.

The Xiaomi SU7 spotted in Paris was part of the “Xiaomi [Human x Car x Home] Smart Ecosystem” exhibition. The Chinese electric car has generated a lot of interest. By the end of July, nearly 40,000 units will have been delivered throughout China. To receive their SU7, Chinese customers now only have to wait 30 days. The waiting times are getting shorter. By December 2024, Xiaomi plans to have 220 points of sale in 59 Chinese cities.
