This Indian electric bus recharges in record time

Indian manufacturer Veera Vahana has partnered with startup Exponent Energy to develop an electric bus called the Veera Mahasamrat EV. With a charging time of 15 minutes, the two companies claim that it is the bus with the best charging performance in the world.

Cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses… All types of vehicles now have an electrified version. In the transport sector, there is still work to be done. But we can see that electric trucks and buses are of increasing interest to manufacturers around the world. Indian manufacturer Veera Vahana has just unveiled its Veera Mahasamrat EV. An electric bus equipped with a 320 kWh LFP battery operating at 650 volts.

This Indian electric bus is equipped with an MCS charging port

Its strong point? Its charging performance. Equipped with an MCS (Megawatt Charging System) connector developed by Exponent Energy, the bus promises a full charge in 15 minutes. The start-up specializing in new technologies related to the energy sector estimates that the Veera Mahasamrat EV can "cover a distance of 650 km with two short stops". The charging time will be a determining factor in convincing customers.

The vehicle will be deployed on the following route: Bengaluru-Hyderabad, two major cities in southern India. Exponent Energy is one of the first companies in the world to have developed a 1 MW connector. But for this to be useful, suitable infrastructure is needed. The startup will deploy 4 MCS charging stations on the route in question.

The electric bus is equipped with a 190 kW motor located at the rear. It can accelerate from 0 to 30 km/h in 10 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 98 km/h and climb a 17-degree slope. The vehicle measures 13.5 m, weighs 19.5 tonnes and has a capacity of 36 passengers. Finally, the Indian electric bus will be offered at around 22 million Indian rupees, or around 2,63,000 USD.
