Mercedes Electric Truck: Simon Loos Expands with 75 New Vehicles

The landscape of transportation is shifting towards sustainable solutions, and one of the most significant developments is the rise of electric trucks. In a move that underscores this trend, Dutch haulier Simon Loos is set to receive 75 electric trucks from Mercedes. This substantial investment positions the company to have the largest fleet of electric heavy-duty vehicles in the Netherlands by 2025, with a total of 135 electric trucks.

Mercedes Electric Trucks Lead the Way

Mercedes is taking bold steps in the electric vehicle sector, particularly with its heavy-duty models. At the IAA Transportation event in Hanover, the German automotive giant reached an agreement with Simon Loos, a Dutch logistics company, to deliver 75 electric trucks. This deal will more than double Simon Loos' current fleet of electric trucks, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable transportation.

The flagship model involved in this deal is the eActros 600, a long-distance electric truck that has generated significant anticipation within the industry. With series production scheduled to begin in November 2024, the first of these advanced electric trucks will be delivered to Simon Loos in early 2025. This makes Simon Loos one of the first major customers to integrate the eActros 600 into its operations.

The Game-Changing eActros 600

A key selling point of the Mercedes eActros 600 is its impressive range and charging capabilities. Equipped with a 621 kWh LFP battery, the truck can travel up to 500 km on a single charge. This range marks a significant improvement over earlier models, allowing logistics companies like Simon Loos to extend their operational reach without the need for frequent charging stops.

The eActros 600 supports a maximum charging power of 400 kW using the CCS (Combined Charging System). Moreover, it is future-proofed with readiness for the MCS (Megawatt Charging System), which will enable charging power of up to 1,000 kW. This enhanced capability will make long-distance travel more efficient, further cementing the eActros 600's place as a leader among Mercedes electric trucks.

A New Era for Simon Loos and Electric Trucking

For Simon Loos, the acquisition of 75 new Mercedes electric trucks represents a significant shift in its fleet management strategy. According to Wim Roks, fleet manager at Simon Loos, the eActros 600's range of 500 km is a game-changer. “While we were previously able to plan journeys of 250 to 300 km with our electric trucks, we will now be able to push it up to 500 km with the new Mercedes model. And that changes everything!” he says.

This increased range means that electric trucks can now be used for longer routes without concerns over battery limitations. For Simon Loos, this means less time spent on route planning and more flexibility in meeting customer demands. The shift to a more robust fleet of Mercedes electric trucks also aligns with the company's goals to reduce carbon emissions and support the Netherlands' transition to greener logistics solutions.

The Future of Electric Heavy-Duty Vehicles

As series production of the Mercedes eActros 600 begins, it is expected to set a new benchmark for the industry. The combination of long-range capabilities and advanced charging options makes it a versatile choice for logistics providers looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising efficiency. With the first batch of deliveries starting in 2025, Simon Loos is positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable transportation in the Netherlands.

This collaboration between Simon Loos and Mercedes exemplifies the growing demand for electric trucks in the heavy-duty segment. It also highlights the role that established manufacturers like Mercedes are playing in shaping the future of transport. By investing in a fleet of Mercedes electric trucks, Simon Loos is not only expanding its operations but also contributing to a broader shift towards sustainable logistics.

Future of transport looks greener

The partnership between Simon Loos and Mercedes is a significant step in the evolution of electric trucks in the logistics industry. With 75 new Mercedes electric trucks set to join its fleet, Simon Loos is leading the way in the Netherlands, demonstrating the potential of electric heavy-duty vehicles for long-distance travel. As more companies embrace the benefits of electrification, the future of transport looks greener than ever.
