The future of the Chrysler brand is not very reassuring. The development of the electric crossover from the Airflow concept, which was to be its first new product since 2016, has been interrupted. But we are assured that other models are in the pipeline.
Since the Pacifica in 2016, Chrysler has not presented any new model. Today, this large minivan is the only vehicle to fill its catalog... and therefore the dealership halls. The flagship brand of the third of the Big Three is clearly in agony.
Like Lancia (ironically since the two labels shared models for a while), Chrysler had obtained the guarantee of its survival when Stellantis was created, via Carlos Tavarès' commitment not to eliminate brands without giving them a chance.
For Chrysler, this opportunity came in the form of the Airflow concept, presented in 2022 and whose production version based on the STLA Large platform was expected in 2026. With a slightly different style and a new name. A year before its launch, development was stopped, which was officially confirmed by a spokesperson for the brand.
Enough to cast doubt on the future of Chrysler. Faced with financial difficulties, the next boss of Stellantis could have the difficult task of making certain names disappear. And Chrysler is at the forefront with barely 100,000 units per year...
For the moment, the head of the manufacturer, Christine Feuell, wants to be reassuring. At least three new models are under development, in addition to the Airflow: an update of the Pacifica with an electric version, a sedan inspired by the Halcyon concept and then a large crossover.
