In 2023, the electric SUV was the best-selling vehicle in Europe, all engines combined. A feat not repeated in 2024. A Dacia was champion! Sales of electric cars came to a halt in Europe last year. In a market up 0.9%, electric cars fell by 1.3%. The electric car results were weighed down by a 27% drop in Germany, due to the end of the bonus.
But the Model Y has plunged, falling by 17.5% to 210,484 sales. A decline that has an important consequence: while it had achieved the feat of being the best-selling vehicle in Europe in 2023, all engines combined, it is "only" 4th in 2024 according to the first results communicated by Automotive News Europe.
It finds itself behind the Renault Clio and Volkswagen Golf, currently credited with 2nd and 3rd place, but with a tiny gap: 216,569 units for the French and 216,549 units for the German. These places could therefore change with the final results.
But nothing will call into question the title of sales champion of 2024, awarded for the first time to a model that was regularly close to this place, without reaching it: it is the Dacia Sandero. More than 270,000 units were delivered last year.
After a small lull, the Model Y should recover quickly, since Tesla is preparing to launch the restyled version in Europe. We imagine that customers have postponed their purchase while waiting for this Juniper model.
