Subaru: the STe badge for sporty electric cars?

Subaru: the STe badge for sporty electric cars?

Subaru has filed a patent for the STe name in Germany. Close to the STI, this could thus name sports electric cars. It is the CarBuzz site which notes this patent filing, with the German Patent and Trademark Office. This is the place in Germany where companies register the names and patents they use and create.

Last year, Subaru announced that the STI badge, which has named its sports cars for several decades, was disappearing. The manufacturer had shortly before presented a sporty outline of its Solterra electric SUV.

This was called Solterra STI, and accompanied the E-RA Concept during the 2022 Tokyo Motor Show. These two models were present to show the sporting intentions of a brand formerly known for its legendary Impreza.

It therefore turns out that there will be no STI version of the Solterra, but that it could however receive the STe designation. STI stands for Subaru Tecnica International, and STe could therefore simply replace the last word of the acronym with “electric”.

We will now have to see if this badge is confirmed, and what use the Japanese manufacturer will make of it. The Solterra is its only electric model at the moment, and it must be admitted that even with an STI or STe badge, it will certainly struggle to become a standard of sportiness.
