Here is the first hybrid Porsche 911

The famous 911 is entering the era of electrification. But in a timid way, with a simple hybridization which seems more useful for boosting performance than for reducing consumption!

An electrified 911 has been talked about for years. But with this iconic model, Porsche did not want to rush things! We thought we would discover such a 911 during the presentation of the 992 generation at the end of 2018, but we had to wait until 2024 and the restyling of the 992 to see it.

And in addition to taking its time, the manufacturer has chosen modest electrification for the 911. Not 100% electric, and not even yet a plug-in hybrid like you can find at Ferrari or McLaren. The 911 makes do with simple hybridization. Note that the system called T-hybrid does not give rise to a new variant of the 911, it equips the new GTS.

An electric unit is thus mounted in the 8-speed PDK double-clutch gearbox. It delivers up to 40 kW of power and 150 Nm of torque. This 911 receives a new flat-six whose displacement increases from 3.0 to 3.6 liters. Its power is 485 hp. Note that an 11 kW electric motor takes place in the turbocharger (which also remains driven by the exhaust gases), which reduces response times at low revs. The hybrid system is associated with a small 1.9 kWh battery.

Combining all the engines, we are at 541 hp and 610 Nm of torque. T-hybrid technology benefits performance, with a top speed of 312 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, an improvement of two tenths compared to the old GTS. On the other hand, on the ecology side, it’s not really that! The car is announced with a combined consumption of 10.5 to 11 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 239 to 251 g/km. Clearly, we cannot escape the maximum penalty in France!

As said above, this 911 hybrid is launched on the occasion of the restyling of the 992. Unsurprisingly, the facelift is light, we do not upset the lines that are so popular. We still notice a new light signature at the front (with Matrix LED headlights as standard), a revised light strip and even new shields. At the front of the GTS version, we have vertical fins which move to better cool the mechanics or improve the aerodynamic flow.

Inside, the 911 gives in to the trend for 100% digital instrumentation. Note that in series, there are only two places left. But the rear seat is a free option!
