DAF Trucks launches charging station reservation platform for electric trucks

DAF Trucks has just announced the possibility for its customers to reserve a public charging station in Europe.

In order to facilitate the use of its electric trucks throughout Europe, the Franco-Dutch manufacturer of utility vehicles has joined the "HDV Booking" consortium. This consortium, supported by the European authorities, has set itself the goal of developing a platform allowing road transport companies to find and, above all, reserve public charging points from 2026.

The new HDV Booking consortium

The members of "HDV Booking" include providers of charging facilities, card reading systems and dedicated software developers. In short, enough to allow users of its future platform to determine the most efficient schedule and route to increase the availability of their electric trucks over long distances.

Better journey planning

Indeed, better charging planning can help to reduce waiting times and enable longer distances, including for journeys between different European countries. But, as Bart Bosmans, Marketing & Sales Director at DAF Trucks, points out, “an efficient and functional reservation system requires that all electric vehicles, as well as charging points and planning software, are interconnected.”

Taking into account different factors

To do this, the tool developed for the "HDV Booking" platform will allow in particular to consider the many constraints that road transport companies must face in their activity. Indeed, this platform will be able to take into account factors such as traffic jams encountered on the route or the rest periods of the truck driver for example.

DAF Trucks has started production of its XD and XF Electric trucks

Series production of the new generation of XD and XF electric trucks has just started at the manufacturer's plant in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. These two models were launched at the IAA in Hannover in September 2022. The DAF XD Electric and XF Electric truck ranges offer respective power outputs ranging from 170 kW/230 hp to 350 kW/480 hp and from 270 kW/370 hp to 350 kW/480 hp. However, their range is almost identical, reaching around 500 kilometres at 'zero emissions' on a single charge, according to information provided by DAF Trucks.
