Bentley Flying Spur plug-in hybrid: a 4-door supercar with almost 800 hp

Bentley Flying Spur plug-in hybrid: a 4-door supercar with almost 800 hp

Bentley presents the fourth generation of its Flying Spur. And its performance should not leave you indifferent. In its new version, the plug-in hybrid model offers 782 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. As is often the case, Bentley has not done things by halves.

A plug-in hybrid like no other

Before offering its first 100% electric model, Bentley decided to update the Flying Spur. The sedan abandons the W12 and adopts a new plug-in hybrid engine called "Ultra Performance Hybrid". This one offers 782 hp (that's 147 hp more than the previous version) and 1,000 Nm of torque (compared to 900 Nm before). Enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

In detail, the group is composed of a 4.0-liter, 600 hp twin-turbo V8 combined with a 190 hp electric motor. All integrated into an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. According to Bentley, "few vehicles on the planet can boast such a range of capabilities and none do so with as much refinement, presence and luxury as the new Flying Spur". The manufacturer also speaks of the "first 4-door supercar".

Bentley focuses on the details

In this new version, the sedan has a range of 76 km in electric mode. In total, the company promises a range of 829 km between two refuelings. What is interesting is that the 100% electric mode can be deployed at speeds of up to 140 km/h and with an application of the accelerator of up to 75%. On the charging side, it takes 2 hours 45 minutes to bring the battery back to 100%. The Flying Spur takes 11 kW of power.

In terms of design, new bodywork elements in a "graphite" finish have been added. There is also a new grille and 22-inch 10-spoke wheels. Finally, "light sculpture" technology has been added, as on the Mulliner Batur coupé. There are LEDs housed in the doors that project an animated version of the Bentley Wings logo onto the ground when the front doors are opened.

Inside, future owners will benefit from new seats with 3D diamond pattern leather upholstery that adorns the doors and pillars. There is also intelligent air ionization and the option of automatic posture adjustment on all 4 seats. The brand is deploying My Bentley App Studio, a system that provides the driver with a range of applications immediately without using a smartphone.

The firm has not communicated on the marketing date, nor on the price. The old version was sold from 200,000 euros. Given the improvements made to the Flying Spur, we can assume that the price of the new version will be higher. Then, the next for Bentley will be the launch of a 100% electric model in 2026.
