Although it is still visible on the manufacturer's website, the iX3 can no longer be ordered. All models still available or in production are already reserved. The Munich firm is preparing the arrival of its successor, the first model in the Neue Klasse range.
The 2020 BMW iX3 is about to bow out
It's official: the current generation of the BMW iX3 is about to bow out. BMW recently announced that orders for its SUV are closed. Production will last until the second quarter of 2025. Then it will be the turn of the successor to the iX3 to take over. This will be the German brand's very first model based on the new Neue Klasse platform.
"We have decided to no longer accept orders for the iX3. As a result, the vehicle is no longer available in the configurator. From the end of 2025, the first model in our Neue Klasse range will be available and will provide our customers with an offer better suited to the segment," the manufacturer explained. The current model could no longer compete with the competition.
A model that could no longer compete with the competition
First marketed in 2020, the iX3 was in reality just a variation of its thermal cousin. It was based on the CLAR mixed platform, a technology originally developed for combustion engines. There are a number of criticisms: no all-wheel drive, a 210 kW engine that is too weak, and a range and charging performance that are no longer up to par.
It is therefore not surprising that the manufacturer has decided to remove its aging model from the configurator. But the SUV has another major flaw: it is manufactured in China. The brand may have to pay additional customs duties to sell its vehicle in Europe. Its successor will be manufactured in Hungary and will offer performances much more in line with the expectations of motorists.
